On September 15th, Google announced the availability of version 1.6 SDK for Android. The enhancements to Android include:
- Quick Search Bar
- Updated Camera, Camcorder and Gallery
- VPN Control Panel
- Battery Usage Indicator
- Updated Market with Screen Shots
- A multilingual Text-To-Speech API
- Support for Gestures
- Support for different screen resolutions and densities
- New Linux Kernel (2.6.29)
- Support for CDMA telephony – Hello Sprint and Verizon

The expected date for Donut on actual phones, sometime in October. Considering the HTC Hero for Sprint is slated for release on Oct 11th, Android 1.6 should be before then.
