Looks like there are reports from users of brand new Sprint powered HTC Heroes that are reporting they are running EV-DO Rev. 0 instead of Rev. A. However after reading through some of it, it may just be a reporting issue and not an actual speed issue, as some have stated that while the phone reports they are on Rev.0 the speed has been Rev.A speed. Others state they didn’t really notice until they checked. Also, there are more people stating it’s a Cupcake versus Donut issue in that 1.5 wasn’t supposed to support CDMA, and as such, HTC had to implement it themselves, which may be the root of the problem, just a firmware bug. Finally, one commenter on the Engadget post goes on to link to a sprint users website where a random “Joe Plumber” states there will be a firmware update within days. However, Androidandme.com is stating Sprints OTA update system is limited to 10MB, and Android runs in the range of 50MB, making it difficult if not impossible to do an OTA update, which would mean users have to download an install the update via their PC or take their phone into a local Sprint store and have an employee do it for them. Those reading this post, are probably the type to do it themselves, so it’s not that big of a deal, but still not as easy as getting the update from the ether around us. I myself am interested in a Sprint Hero, so I may wait and see how this plays out first.
UPDATE Official response from Sprint on the issue indicates it’s just a reporting problem with the software and not an actual data/speed problem: EVDO Rev 0 or Rev A
