For the past week or so, I have been talking with a friend of mine about the Droid. He is currently on Verizon Wireless and likes their service. He only has a couple months before he can upgrade and he was really looking forward to the Droid. This weekend he went into the store to test out the demo, after which he has decided to pass. He even took the time to write a letter to Motorola about it. Read on.
Customer ([removed]) – 11/08/2009 11:42 PM I like almost everything about the new Droid. However I am holding off on getting this smartphone. I would like to see the following design changes and then I’m all in. In place of the Navigation Tool [the d-pad] I would like to see a Trackball. It appears that it would be possible to add such an item even with the slide out keyboard. This would also allow for more room so the QWERTY key sizes could be expanded. I would also replace two of the Dedicated Keys with actual Phone buttons, i.e. Call and End Call, where the Call button would go to the number pad with links to Contacts or Recent Calls. Finally increase the processor speed to 1 GHz. Ohh, and have it available on the Verizon network.
I asked him to clarify that last line and he stated he didn’t want Motorola to make all these changes then send that version over to Sprint, AT&T or T-Mobile. He wanted this updated, second version to be available on Verizon Wireless. He sent this in via a Web Comment system. He got a response:

So, it looks like if he wants changes he might have to contact Verizon Wireless too, or instead. So, does anyone else have a wish list for Droid 2? I’d like to see that nice 1Ghz Snapdragon in there. Maybe lose the physical keyboard…or at least improve it.

Very cool that he got a reply. Yes, I’d love to see a Droid 2. I’d be willing to wait up to 6 months for it, and wouldn’t care if it was mostly the same as this one except for an improved keyboard and more ram for App Storage. Gotta be at least 2gb.
Unlike your friend, though, I’d be fine with the phone being on T-Mo, Sprint, or *sigh* . . . even AT&T.
