HTC Legend

htclegendThe HTC Legend reminds me very much of a slightly less chinned GSM Hero. It’s looking to fall into a middle category of Android phones from HTC next year. It’s an upgrade from the Buzz with an HVGA (where it should be) AMOLED screen, though it sticks with 3.2″, it bumps the processor to a 600Mhz Qualcomm MSM7227 (versus the 528Mhz 7225 of the Buzz). This is a nice little bump in specs from this years offerings, a little speed, a little better screen (hopefully). One of it’s biggest features is a metallic housing which promises to look and feel great in the hand and helps it keep a slim 11.4mm thickness.

Other features of note would be the inclusion of a microUSB port if and only if they mean something more standard in shape than the current HTC specific USB port.  Not that it’s a huge deal, but if I lose my cable, I want to be able to use one of a gazillion others I have laying around and not have to go seek something specific for recharging.  Also of interest is the “Optical Mouse” which looks like a button, with a hole in the middle to track your fingers movement across the mouse.  Interesting in theory, let’s see how people react when we get a few in hand tests.  Again the rest of the specs are fairly standard:

  • GSM 3G Speeds, 7.2mbps down 2mbps up.
  • GPS/AGPS
  • Accerometer
  • Compass
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • FM Radio
  • 802.11b/g
  • Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR
  • microSD slot
  • 5.0MP Camera with auto focus and flash

This looks like it could be one of the big sellers next year, somewhere in the middle spec and hopefully price wise.  Look for this phone March of 2010.
