HTC Tide

htctideThe HTC Tide kind of reminds me of a none smart phone of yesteryear.  Not that it’s a bad thing, just what it reminds me of.  It’s definitely going to be on the lower end of Android phones from HTC next year.  It’s got a 2.6″ QVGA screen similar to the Salsa, but this one looks to be in portrait mode.  Below that it has a full physical number pad for those who want to feel the numbers being dialed but aren’t into a full on qwerty keyboard.

Other than those features it seems a little plain for a new phone:

  • GSM 3G Speeds, 7.2mbps down 2mbps up.
  • GPS/AGPS
  • Accerometer
  • 3.5mm headphone jack
  • 802.11b/g
  • Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR
  • microSD slot
  • 3.2MP Camera with auto focus

Look for the Tide to come in April of 2010.

I’ve been waiting for a touchscreen smartphone with a numeric keypad… QWERTY is overkill, and the keys would be too small, but physical buttons are far better than virtual ones. This could be the phone I upgrade from my Nokia N82 to.

It’s a shame if there’s no FM radio, but I could buy and use an iPod Nano for multimedia… But I really hope the camera is good (the resolution is fine) as I’d rather not carry around even a compact camera.

“I’ve been waiting for a touchscreen smartphone with a numeric keypad” – totally agree! Finally! Going to be a good replacement for my Asus 527. Asus sucks, very functional, but never works fine. Hope this one will.
