Nexus One Launch January 1, 2010?

The rumors are, Nexus One will be launched early Jan 2010 according to most sources. Well, after some clever investigation, wired.com is reporting on a little Easter egg on www.google.com.

Apparently, there is a nice little embedded feature in the main google search site hidden until revealed by not entering any search text and clicking “I’m feeling lucky”. What appears is a countdown right now at around 1.3 million seconds. And, while that sounds like a long time, that is a little over 15 days, which makes it around Jan 1 2010. Now, this could just be a New Year’s countdown, but it could also be a launch countdown for Nexus One maybe?  Rarely does Google post anything on the front page, but they did it for the G1.  Why not for an even bigger Google product if it’s real?

It’s pointing to Jan 1st, alright. But there are other rumors which say Nexus One will launch on Jan 5th.

If you see the code, you can read a page which leads you to the code of this easter egg and it does say it is counting down to the 1st.
But there is no reference to the Nexus One.

I think this is more in reference to the New Year, as played with by the meaning of pressing “I’m feeling lucky”. Not all Google’s actions these days should be connected to their upcoming smartphone.

I agree, I think it’s a countdown until New year. Wouldn’t surprise me if it will be available on the homepage after xmas

The countdown seems to adjust to each one’s time zone.
I’m not in the same as Google but it IS exactly ’till midnight of Dec 31st/Jan 1st

That’s why I put the big question mark in the post. I don’t think it’s counting down to anything except the new year, but sometimes I like to let my imagination run wild.
