Notion Ink Tablet Looks Good

Notion Ink Android Powered Tablet

Notion Ink Android Powered Tablet

This is easily one of the slickest looking tablet renderings I’ve seen.  Too bad it’s just that.  A rendering.  At least for now.  Hopefully, Notion Ink will do more than just make a beautiful rendering for us to drool over.  This could come to life in the form of an nVidia Tegra powered Android running tablet with great features, so not only does it look good on the outside, it looks better on the inside.

First, this tablet will be built around a NVIDIA Tegra T20 process, which has yet to be officially announced…so take that tidbit with a grain of salt.  It will support 1080p output, most likely though the HDMI because the screen is said to be running at 1024×600.  However, it will be of Pixel Qi variety, which would make it one of the first of it’s kind.  It should help improve the battery life, with the help of the T20 8-core processor, and is more easily visible in direct sunlight.  Here is the list of specs:

  • 6.3 x 9.7 x 0.6 inches
  • 1.7 lbs
  • WiFi b/g, Bluetooth, UMTS/HSDPA (3G)
  • Digital Compass, Accelerometer, Proximity, Ambient light, Water sensors
  • USB, HDMI, 3-megapixel autofocus camera, Video Recording
  • 16GB or 32GB SSD
  • SD Slot
  • Android OS -Version unknown.
  • 10.1″ 1024×600 Pixel Qi display
  • 48 hrs standby battery, 8 hrs HD video playback, 16 hrs internet surfing over WiFi

I am excited about this as just about everyone else, Android lover or not, I’m sure. Let’s hope this comes to the market sonner than later and resembles the renderings at least a little.  Notion Ink states on their website this about the OS:

Right now the product which is to come at CES will showcase only Android. But was it not designed for smaller mobile phone? What about those full screen alert boxes? There are lots of issues for Android to be used on the big screen. We are going to fix it, but will not showcase in CES this time. There are going to be a lot of User Interface changes in the final product.

So, Android will probably be running with very deep custom UI, similar to Sense UI from HTC and not a stock Android built.  Either way, I’m excited.  If this things runs half as fast as it looks, I might have to pick up a few.
