Engadget and Gizmodo are reporting that special invitations have been sent out for a January 5th Android event hosted by Google at their Mountain View headquarters. The event invitation does not mention the Nexus One or Google Phone but, it’s a good bet that will be the main subject of the 2.5 hour event. The event is scheduled to start at 9:30 am with registration while the meat of the event will happen starting at 10:00am for about an hour with a press conference and presentation. After that will follow half an hour of Q&A and then half an hour of demonstrations.
All of this is probably leading up to the release of Nexus One/Google Phone which has been reported to be coming out on Jan 5th. Considering these phones are being handed out already, it is a pretty good bet the phone is extremely close to release.
Also, word is the phone will be sold directly through Google and will have technical support through Google and/or HTC while the service will be through T-Mobile. All billing and questions of service will be handled by T-Mobile. Again this sounds very similar to how Google handles their current AD1 and AD2 phones; sold direct through Google with service support via whatever company you choose (AT&T or T-Mobile).
