MoDaCo Custom HERO ROM Builder Available

MoDaCo has released what they are referring to as a Kitchen Sink for created custom ROMs for the HTC Hero, both the GSM version and the CDMA version.  The kitchen sink aspect is like a shopping like for making a custom ROM.  You simply select the applications and/or features you wish installed on your phone and it will build a custom ROM for you to download and install.  It’s all online, easy to access and use.  The only unfortunately part is you must be a paid member of the MoDaCo website with the cheapest paid subscription being $10 a year.

However, after running a custom MoDaCo ROM on my CDMA Hero for a few days now, I have to say it’s worth the $10.  I am running a non-kitchen sink version, which is also available for free but, doesn’t allow you to select the features and apps you want installed.  However, I have found it seems to work a little faster and smoother and my battery life is a little better.  I installed the ROM straight over my base shipping ROM without wiping the data.  Everything went really smooth and I have been enjoying the ROM ever since.

The Kitchen Sink includes toggles for including or excluding the following features of the CDMA Hero:

  • Google Maps
  • Google Voice Search
  • HTC Sense
  • Footprints
  • Mail (Not Gmail – The Outlook Synced Mail app)
  • Market Widgets
  • Notes
  • Peep
  • Stocks
  • Sync (Outlook Desktop Sync)
  • Teeter
  • Sprint NASCAR
  • Sprint Navigator
  • Sprint TV
  • Sprint NFL
  • Jbed Java
  • Quickoffice
  • Spare Parts
  • Titanium Backup
  • Wavesecure
  • Wifi Notification
  • Wifi Tethering
  • Business Card Reader
  • WAP Browser
  • Plurk (Temp not Avail)
  • Boot Sounds
  • Dropbear SSH

That is quite a list and I know of a few things that I’d love to have off my phone that I cannot uninstall directly.  If you are interested head on over to the post and sign up for your account.  $10 is a couple beers at the local bar.  If you want to try out a standard MoDaCo ROM for the HTC Hero, try the latest build, the same I’m running now.
