Samsung Moment Gets Maintenance Upgrade

Samsung Moment

Today, Sprint has released a support article indicating they have a maintenance update for the Samsung Moment ready.  Unfortunately, it does not include an update to the Android OS, but it does include a number of small improvements, including all the Sprint specific apps and some improvements to battery life.  The bad news is you must go to a Sprint retail store with a repair center to have the update installed.  But, the announcement does mention that in the future the updates will be available over the air, so this is excellent news for Android updates via the ether.

The update includes all the following changes:

Version Date released Description of enhancements/fixes
S:M900.8.0S.CL14 1/15/2010 This update includes:
- Network Assist GPS to allow indoor location fix
- Updates to several third-party apps, including Visual Voicemail, NFL, NASCAR and Sprint TV
- Change to Emergency Dial on lock screen
- Hard reset available in recovery mode: remove and reinsert battery; press volume down, send and end keys until reboot option pops up; scroll to wipe data/factory reset; press OK
- Various improvements to battery life

** NOTE: The latest software update S:M900.8.0S.CL14 is currently only available by visiting a Sprint retail location with a Repair Center. Check our store locator to find a Repair Center location near you. We recommend you call ahead and make an appointment to avoid long lines.

The ability to download the update directly on your Moment will be available in the near future. Continue to check this webpage for further updates. **

Moment users, head on in and take the leap.

Amazing…not only did they fail to provide a substantial update, but we also wont be able to utilize it unless we go to a sprint store…worthless, waits for real update over the air.

Thank God.. an update for my Samsung Moment! This phone is great in that it’s got much more potential than the HTC Hero… however with Samsung’s non-existant customization, this phone gets commonly called ‘a brick’ … and With this update.. it’s goodbye brick.. Thankfully, some of these updates are the from the upcoming Android 2.0/2.1 release, namely the Emergency Call adjustment feature. Woohoo! Now I’m very much looking forward to the Android OS update. Samsung/Sprint, please help upgrade the Samsung Moment to Android v2.1 asap!! :-) :-)

I have to report that the battery life improvement, at least in my case, is dramatic. I can actually go for a couple of days without recharging now; before I had to top off in the car during the day.

i bought the samsung moment on the advice of the store rep after telling him i wanted to get a phone i could download movies on.the phone will never be able to do that without the 2.2 upgrade that they also told me would be comming out within a month.that was in may.they will not release 2.2 for the moment because they want you to buy the new 4g phones.also you get a one year warranty with your new phones but they will only give you a used phone.i think when you buy a new phone and you have multiple problems with that phone you should get a new phone not someone elses phone that has been sent back to them.i have been with sprint for six years.i pay 260.00 a month for my service and really expect better from my provider.the bottom line is be very carefull when youre buying a phone research everything.they will tell you anything to get you to buy a phone and they will not come through when you have problems.im going to go pick up my new used phone because i have no other choice.i think that is really sad. verry unsatisfied customer.
