Engadget is running an exclusive story courtesy of “a trusted source” that HTC is cooking up a 4G smart phone for Sprint codenamed “Supersonic”. There was an article not too long ago about a leaked Sprint document showing a mysterious A9292 4G smart phone. Well, Engadget’s source claims to have gotten some personal viewing of the secret phone and has a few tasty details for us Android fans.
The codename of Supersonic is not new, it was uncovered up in a leaked Sense UI ROM by maxisma and first reported on from AndroidSPIN. This lends some credit that the Supersonic will be sporting an Android 2.1 build with Sense UI, since it was in that leaked ROM. Also, the phone is said to have an HD2 feel to it, sporting a 4.3″ non AMOLED screen and general size and feel of the HD2 according to the source, who also stated the one they saw was white and had a kickstand. Finally, it was stated while the software on the particular unit they saw was buggy, they say it was fast, like Snapdragon fast. So, it sounds like it won’t be hitting the shelves any time soon, but there is an excellent chance the first 4G phones could be hitting the market this year.
