HTC Releases CDMA Hero Kernel Source
HTC released the source code for the CDMA Hero (Sprint) kernel. This was a major roadblock for custom ROM developers who were running into trouble porting Android 1.6, 2.0 or even 2.1 to the CDMA HTC Hero. Without the Kernel, many of the tweaks devs were limited to making to their ROMs adding just package optimizations and themes. Well, with the release of the source code, that’s no longer an issue.
Now the developers are really able to optimize the kernel and the OS itself. They should be able to add in more performance, remove things such as debugging features that are on by default and fix bugs like the location bug. I am a little excited because I’m currently on a custom ROM for the CDMA Hero. I have tried about some Android 2.0+ goodness, but the ROM wasn’t quite there and lacked a few features because of the lack of an updated kernel.
Hopefully someone will port over Android 2.1 for all us CDMA Hero Owners. Hint, hint.
