Cyanogen has been working the Android customization scene for a long time. Starting with the original Android phone, the HTC Dream, also known as the T-Mobile G1, he has managed to develop some really impressive custom software builds for the Dream and Magic (myTouch 3G) and is now working his mojo with the Nexus One. Already on a beta 2 release of his initial ROM for the Nexus One, Cyanogen is working to help improve the features and performance of Google’s favorite little Droid, the Nexus One.
Ok, stating it’s Google’s favorite might be a stretch, but really, I don’t think it’s that much of a stretch. Back to the ROM…Cyanogen has managed to get a few additional features added to the initial ROM release, including multitouch pinch to zoom in the maps application, FLAC audio support and USB tethering as well. I suggest checking out the full Changelog listing for all the good details. Like I state above, this is a BETA release, so use at your own risk. The Droids and Cyanogen assume no responsibility. From what I have read, there are a few little bugs in the BETA 2, and Cyanogen is working on a BETA 3 release to address those issues. However, the word on the street is Cyanogen’s ROM makes the Nexus One even more wicked fast. If that’s possible.
UPDATE: Cyanogen tweeted that the N1 files are down for a little while so he can fix a bug. We are close, but not quite there yet. Can you feel it?
