This is a nice hidden feature that was discovered. The Motorola CLIQ has the built in hardware for FM reception, it just wasn’t supported with any software. Not any more. A user named Eugene was rooting around the Motorola CLIQ ROM files and noticed a few things referencing FM radio. So, with a few extra files copied over, and a nice FM radio app he found, he was able to enable listening to FM radio on the Motorola CLIQ.
Ok, so it’s not as simple as that. There is actually much work that’s done behind the scene, so it’s not quite ready for the general public and most likely will require flashing a custom ROM or having root access at least. Let’s hope he can get something packaged up to help others use it. From the posting on Androidguys.com a few details still need to be worked out, but this is very promising and considering the Nexus One also has FM radio hardware, this may be ported to that as well.
