Mobil.cz is reporting that Motorola has a new handset to show off at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next month. Codenamed the Zeppelin (hopefully of the Led, not Hindenburg variety), it apparently packs a 3.2″ HVGA (320×480) screen, a 5.0MP camera, MOTOBLUR, touch-sensitive buttons below the screen, and is positioned between the DROID and the CLIQ. That is all we know for sure, but that hasn’t kept the rumor mill from kicking into high gear.
For example, Engadget is assuming that it will run MotoBLUR on top of Android 2.0 or 2.1. This, however, has no basis in fact; the CLIQ still runs on Android 1.5! I’m sure eventually both these phones will be updated to 1.6, 2.1 and beyond, but there’s nothing to suggest that it will launch with anything higher than 1.5.
TMoNews is reporting that “the above image is in fact the Motorola Zeppelin headed for T-Mobile”, however, we still have no confirmation that this handset is even GSM, and it’s interesting that a T-Mobile-themed site would be the only site to report that it is “definitely” headed for T-Mo.
I4U has an unsourced and unconfirmed launch date of March 10. However, we have been unable to confirm any of these additional details, and it seems like everyone’s stretching to come up with more details than we really have. One thing’s for sure, either we’ll know more at Mobile World Congress in mid-February, or we won’t.
