Android Developer Lab – Building Better Apps

Google has been good at promoting it’s Android platform to developers through their Developer Labs World Tour currently in progress.  The idea is to promote building applications for the Android OS, an almost epic struggle lately because a certain other mobile application market gets alot of good press and draws the mobile developers in.  It’s good to see Google trying to build excitement, and hopefully the Developer Labs will bring in more designers and boost the Android market with good quality apps.  I’m not talking about increasing the number of apps, I’m hoping to see an increase in quality apps.  I’d much rather have fewer great apps, than many mediocre apps.

I have seen, tried and currently use many great mobile applications on my Android phone.  I’m not the type of person to install 300 apps on a phone, I will use maybe 10 good apps regularly.  I also own an iPod Touch and have many good applications on that device as well.  I have found that on both markets, there exists good/useful/well designed applications and bad/useless/poorly designed applications.  I have also found that a couple applications I can only get through Android and a couple I can only get on my iPod Touch.  Of course most the applications I want/use are available on both markets.  I’m hoping a couple other big names begin Android development and the more the merrier of course.
