Dell Mini 5 – Android 2.0+ at Launch

Dell has confirmed that the Mini 5 will indeed have at least Android 2.0 at launch.  This is nice news as it appeared that the Mini 5 would come with Android 1.6 under it’s belt, but now Dell has stated “something newer” will be on there by the time you are able to purchase your Mini 5.  Well, I took the liberty of exchanging the words “something newer” with “Android 2.0+” because that’s about the minimum jump they’d have to make for something newer.  It also appears there will be a special UI on top of the base Android build and they plan on having or at least they’d really like to have Flash support from the get-go.  However, they’ve also stated that it will be upgradable, so that even if Flash doesn’t make it the first time through, it should be on there soon enough.

That’s good news. The Mini 5 is a beautiful piece of hardware, and it deserves great software to go along with it.

Something about that skin though . . . just doesn’t seem like an upgrade from stock Android.
