Android Beginners Guide and Tips

The Droids would like introduce a new page; Android Beginners Guide and Tips.  This page will be a collection of guides, tips and hints that should make getting starting with your new Droid as easy as possible.  We’ll try and make comparison’s so that those who are transitioning from other smart phones to a better, faster, stronger Droid can do so with minimal effort.  Since so many Androids are different from one another, we’ll try and guide you through the common features between Droids, but of course, that will be more difficult the more Android becomes fragmented.  Hopefully, once everyone is up to at least Android 2.0+, we can update the guide to reflect the newest version alone and take out any references to Android 1.6.

We’d like to begin building a “Tips” database with hints and ideas on how to use your Android.  An example hint might be:

Press and hold the HOME button to bring up a shortcut menu for the last 6 applications used.

Quick Launch

Quick Launch

Press and hold the MENU button to bring up the virtual keyboard on your Droid.

If you have a tip that is specific to an application, feel free to post that as well.  Depending on the popularity of the application we’ll start building an app tip section too.  I have one:

Dolphin Browser: Press and hold the BACK button to quickly exit and/or clear the brower’s cache.

We are needed your support to build our database.  If you have a good idea, hint or tip, let us know and we’ll include it and make sure you get credit for the effort.  Add a comment below.

I’ve had my droid for a couple months now and didn’t know about the dolphin browser tip. This post has already proved it’s worth.

I’ve been on android since the very first day of G-1 in 2008, and never thought to hold down the menu button. I’m impressed.
