For those who have not applied the Over the Air (OTA) updated from T-Mobile to the Motorola Cliq, you should probably wait and see what happens over the next few days as it seems the OTA update is causing some major problems with the Cliq. The reported problems stem from a resetting of the clock to 7PM Dec 31 1969, without the ability to set the time back to real time. This then causes all kinds of syncing issues, MSM issues and general login issues that are typically based on a time stamp.
Some users were advised to perform a master reset, which seems to only exacerbate the problem and cause even more issues. It does not fix the time issue either. Basically, this breaks all the functionality that makes the Cliq stand out in terms of a social connected device. This is coming from T-Mobile and Cliq user forums and T-Mobile has been notified and is forwarding all the information to those who can do something about it. For now, just hold off on installing that OTA and if you do, don’t perform a master reset according to a T-Mobile rep named Meriah:
“Thanks everyone for informing us on what the latest Motorola Cliq OTA update has brought to light. We want to let everyone know that we have been reading your comments, and we hear you. We have forwarded your concerns to the appropriate people and are working hard on them.
As of now, we advise you not to Master Reset your phone if your OTA update did not download or if you are experiencing issues at this time.”
We’ll keep on top of this and see how this works out. I’ll post another article when/if the problem is fixed.
