Requests for Android 3.0

Let’s take a moment to just sit back and daydream, sip on your morning coffee and imagine what would the world be like with Android 3.0 in your hands.  Your eyes are closed, you are concentrating on your breathing.  Now, look down.  “Oh, hello Android 3.0, how are you this fine morning?”  You are going to start your day by ______ through the endless number of ______ on your Android ______.   That’s right, Android 3.0 now supports ______ as well as ______.

What would those features be?  What do you think is missing the most from Android and would love to see come through in the next big iteration.

Hardware

This category has some easy features to suggest and hard features to suggest.  Easy ones include, more speed, more memory, more battery life.   Let’s look at the hard ones, crazy ideas!

IR Sender – For direct control of Home Entertainment Equipment – This one seems a popular add-on to the competition lately.

HDMI Output – This is already a reality in some Android markets, but it’d be nice to have more phones with this.

USB Hosting Feature – Imagine an external battery/HDD case.  Sure your Android would get big, but think of something that can store 5-6 movies easily, and the battery to play 5-6 movies.

Joystick (Pointing Stick) – IBM style Rubber joystick with variable rate scroll movement.  the more you push it to a side, the faster the scrolling/movement is.  Imagine not having to lift your finger to continue movement on the screen.

Two Joysticks – Improved control in games.

Software

Again, the easy things would be; Improved Performance, Reduced Battery Usage.  Even better gaming base, such as the OpenGL ES 2.0, which Google recently added to the NDK.

My personal preference would be a easy upgrade path for all; users, manufacturers, carriers.  Make it easier to update to the latest and greatest without having to wait 6+ months.  However, I’m not sure how practical that is.

Improved Market – Yes, this should be the top of the list if Android is to grow, the Market must get better.

Sync Application – I know many people hate iTunes, but it really makes a great docking application for backing up/syncing your iPhone and I’d like to see something like this for Android.  Actually, this should not be limited to Android 3.0 devices.

Apps 2 SD – Official built in support for saving applications to the SD of your Android.  This would almost eliminate the need for larger on board memory up in the Hardware category of this post, but I’d like to see both.

That’s it for my list right now.  I’m sure I’m missing something, so if you want to add to the list, please leave a comment below and let us know.

And you forgot to mention Dalvik Turbo.

As a matter of fact, there’s a lot missing here!

From a hardware perspective, there is no contest: support for GSM and CDMA across all bands in the same unit, preferably with LTE as well. End vendor lock-in NOW!

From a software perspective, I would love to see a one-step operation that can disable manufacturer skins and revert to vanilla Android, perhaps an on/off toggle.

I disagree with using a software application like itunes on your computer to sync… My nexus one with android 2.1 syncs my contacts, calendar and settings to google over 3g, why not add more syncing to google options (such as apps). I don’t want to depend on having to come home and sync or backup my device, it should all be done over the air, automatically.

I hope CrossOver or Wine 9.0 or higher will be supported… After all, Android is Linux/Unix based, and with a little tweaking and an X86 emulator or an Intel Moorestown chip, who knows? Maybe oneday I play Crysis on my handphone on my way home :)

Wifi Proxy Server support is a must to includes in 3.0. Don’t you agree?

How about a feature to require passwords to certain apps because people like to mess with my phone alot listen to my “personal” music, “personal” pictures and “personal” websites on the the browser app. Also If when u accidentally press to play a song have it not play through the speaker so it wont go off when in quite surroundings.
