Today marks the first day you can purchase a Motorola Cliq XT via T-Mobile. It’ll be $130 on contract or $330 if you’d rather purchase it contract free and go with T-Mobile’s lower Even More Plus rates. This nice little QEWRTY-less CLIQ comes with a 5MP camera with LED flash, FM Radio and of course, Android 1.5 with Motoblur. Expect this to be updated to Android 2.1 when Motorola gets it’s updaet for CLIQ ready as well. It’s a decent looking phone and even comes with two choices for battery covers, Licorice and Purple.
Other than the features highlighted in the first paragraph, this is a standard Android smartphone and is geared towards the middle market for smart phones. There are some nice features included, but has the smaller 480×320 screen and middle ground processor. It’s not going to light anything on fire with speed, but remember my article a few days ago about Android 2.1 making my HTC Hero a whole new phone. Motorola should be working hard to push out Android 2.1 soon. Unless you are itching for this particular Android phone or you absolutely need something today, I’d hold off on the CLIQ XT for a while. Wait until the 2.1 update makes it to the world and watch the prices drop. $130 seems high for on contract, especially when you can get a DROID for around $50 now.
