Android – New User Interface Patterns at Google I/O

The Google I/O conference is schedule for May 19th – 20th at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.  During that time, developers of all things Google from Google Chrome to Android will be gathering for technical sessions, developer sandbox events and general information exchange.  Of course, here at the Droids, we’re mostly interested in what will be happening in the Android corner of the conference.  Yesterday, AndroidandMe wrote a great article about Android 2.2 and some expectations at Google I/O including a possible sneak preview of FroYo, the next iteration of Android.  While going through some of the Android sessions listed in the Google I/O webpage, I came across the session for Android UI design patterns and got kind of excited about the following line:

We’ll cover things like how to use Interactive Titlebars, Quick Contacts, and Bottom bars as well some new patterns which will get an I/O-only preview.

So, there is a very good chance that we will get some FroYo previews, even if it’s just the sprinkles on top and not the whole dish.  Google has a section of their developers website dedicated to UI design, optimization and some general guidelines, including guidelines for the application icons, and I’m an advocate for visually pleasing applications so it’s nice to see some focus on the UI and enabling the developers to make the best possible app.
