Motorola Droid X Release Day is Here

Today marks the first day you can go out and pick up a shiny new Droid X from Verizon wireless and Motorola.  The Droid X is the latest model of Android phones from Verizon’s Droid line and features some pretty impressive numbers and has gotten a few really good reviews.  The first thing you’ll notice is the 4.3″ 854×480 screen on the X, which is powered by a 1Ghz OMAP processor and a dedicated GPU.  Inside you’ll find all the goodies you’ve come to love from Android, including a few Verizon exclusives such as Skype mobile and V Cast.  Of course you’ll need some storage and you’ll find a 16GB micro SD card installed with support up to 32GB.  Around back is an 8MP camera with dual LED flash and a 1/1000th s shutter with all kinds of features.

It comes pre-installed with Android 2.1 at this time, which is a great OS, but for those looking for the latest and greatest we have been told it will be upgraded to Android 2.2 and we’re told that’d be later this summer, but I wouldn’t bet the farm on that.  One word of caution though, Motorola has locked the bootloader of this phone, so if you were thinking you’d install a custom ROM and truly make it unique, you might want to hold off a little.  There could always be a way around that, who knows, but for now it seems fairly locked down.
