Google released a new “labs” application for Android 2.0+ devices called Gesture Search. It adds the ability to search your phone using your own finger writing skills instead of the keyboard. It will search all through your phone just like the regular search does, but instead of needing to type in letters, you can simply draw them on the screen with your finger. This type of control is not new, PDA style handwriting recognition has been around for a long time, but it does give you a little more options for searching. Continue Reading…
Dell has confirmed that the Mini 5 will indeed have at least Android 2.0 at launch. This is nice news as it appeared that the Mini 5 would come with Android 1.6 under it’s belt, but now Dell has stated “something newer” will be on there by the time you are able to purchase your Mini 5. Well, I took the liberty of exchanging the words “something newer” with “Android 2.0+” because that’s about the minimum jump they’d have to make for something newer. It also appears there will be a special UI on top of the base Android build and they plan on having or at least they’d really like to have Flash support from the get-go. However, they’ve also stated that it will be upgradable, so that even if Flash doesn’t make it the first time through, it should be on there soon enough.

Google Maps 4.0+ for Android 1.6+ now with more Buzz.

In order to experience Google’s latest craze, Google Buzz, on your Android mobile in full feature mode, you’ll need to update your Google Maps application to 4.0+. Or course, this is only available for devices running Android 2.0+, which to this date is just the Motorola DROID and the Nexus One officially. My mistake. This Map update does work for Android 1.6 Devices as well, so G1 and myTouch 3G owners are also in luck.
Well this is certainly nice news. Apparently, the Motorola MOTOROI, which we reported on just a couple days ago, yeah the one the Koreans are getting, will make its way to the rest of the world and should be in the US this March. This is very nice indeed, because the hardware specs on the MOTOROI are very nice, specifically for the photographer in us all considering the 8MP Xenon flash camera on board. And that is just the start. Continue Reading…
Today Motorola introduced the MOTOROI for Korea. It’s an Android 2.0 powered phone similar to the XT701 introduced to China recently. It has a 3.7″ 480×854 screen, an 8MP camera with Xenon flash and 720P video recording capabilities, and an HDMI port for playing that high definition video straight to your HDTV. Speaking of TV, it also comes with T-DMB for watching some local Korean digital TV and radio. For the full specs and press release Continue Reading…

T-Mobile and ICD Bring Android Vega Tablet to UK
0 Comments | Posted by Android 1 at 12:17 pm
T-Mobile and ICD have officially announced that the nVidia Tergra 250 powered, Android 2.0 running, Vega tablet will be available for those in the UK. This is a large 15″ tablet that they are dubbing the “family hub tablet”. It’s designed to be used around the house for everything from cooking instructions to twittering about what you are cooking to sending out text message reminders of your household chores. It kind of make me think this is a precursor to Rosie from the Jetsons. Just give it legs and arms and you are there. Continue Reading…
The word has been out for a while that Adobe is actively developing a Flash player for the Android platform, but until recently we haven’t been seeing much demoing of the software. Until now that is. Continue Reading…
Sprint announced via twitter that their Android powered phones, the HTC Hero and the Samsung Moment would be getting Android 2.0 updates 1H of next year. This really isn’t surprising news, it was inevitable news and posting that it’ll happen 1H of next year? Yeah, nice big window you’ve saved yourself there Sprint. By June 2010, Android will probably be around 2.5 or 2.6. This is still good news of course. It means Sprint is listening to the crowds of Android users asking the questions. They haven’t shut their ears to the voices. Let’s just hope that 1H of 2010 is more like 1 week or month of 2010 instead of half.
Yesterday, HTC sent out a tweet that plainly states:
Believe it or not, I STILL can’t say anything more about Eclair coming to Hero. Working as fast as we can, promise!
When I first wrote the title for this one, I put a question mark after the title…but after thinking about it, I removed the question mark. I don’t think there is any doubt that the HTC Passion would be coming out before the end of the year. It’s already Dec 7th. Many people have been clamoring for the HTC Passion, which supposedly will come with a 1Ghz Snapdragon processor on top of a 3.5″ OLED touchscreen device. Continue Reading…
