Motorola Backflip

Yesterday was the first day you could pick up your very own Android phone complete with AT&T service in tow.  The Motorola Backflip comes with MOTOBLUR inside and AT&T 3G service pushing all that social network data your way.  Was the wait for an AT&T powered Android phone worth it?  Or should you hold out for one of the four remaining Android handsets coming to AT&T this year?  Continue Reading…

Well, it looks like all your waiting for the Motorola Devour will soon come to an end.  It looks as if the Devour will be offered through Best Buy for $150 $99 on a 2-Year contract, or $550 without contract.  I think I’ll throw out my opinion.  What?!?!  The DROID can be had for less than $100 right now.  Personally, the software, hardware and look of the DROID far surpasses that of the Devour.  I can really only find three things that would lure a consumer to the Devour rather than the DROID right now.  1) MOTOBLUR 2) DLNA Support 3)Battery Life.  Let’s compare the two phones… Continue Reading…

AT&T has just announced that its first Android handset, the Motorola Backflip will be available March 7.

Just to remind you, the Backflip is a 3.1″-screen, reverse flip qwerty, which has two positions, one which props it open like an easel for watching video on a flat surface, and fully open for typing. They’re officially calling the backside trackpad the “BACKTRACK,” which is ever so inventive, and is apparently “a new way to scroll through the Web, texts, e-mails and news feeds without obscuring the home screen.” The Backflip also includes MotoBLUR, the add-on skin which syncs social networks like MySpace, Twitter, and Facebook with your address book contacts.

Apparently it will be $199, and will come with a $100 rebate, of the mail-in variety, which apparently will be paid via AT&T “Promotion Card”, which really isn’t a rebate at all, since you’re still forced to spend the $100. So if you abslutely have to have Android on AT&T, March 7th is your day!

Motorola has posted an official update list for Android powered devices on it’s website.  This includes updates for the DROID, Milestone, CLIQ and DEXT.  The Droid update should be coming out soon as we had been lead to believe before due to a leaked update announcement.  Or possible a premature update announcement.  The Cliq looks to be getting it’s Android 2.1 the second quarter of 2010, which puts it out there a little ways, but we expect that will include an updated MOTOBLUR interface as well.  Continue Reading…

Motorola continues to expand it’s Android lineup with the introduction of the QUENCH, which shall be known as the CLIQ XT in the US.  The QUENCH is basically the CLIQ/DEXT without the physical qwerty keyboard, with a few additional features.  Basic specs include a 3.1″ high definition screen (which indicates greater than 480×320 resolution) and a 5mP camera with LED flash.  Two nice additional features include a dual mic setup with noise cancellation and an FM radio.  These phones will com loaded with Motorola’s own MOTOBLUR UI on top of Android 1.6 which includes a pinch-to-zoom setup as well and Swype preloaded just like the newer myTouch 3G phones.  Expect this to come to T-Mobile the 1Q of 2010 as the CLIQ XT and as the QUENCH to the rest of the world.  For more information Continue Reading…

The reverse trackpad on the Motorola BackflipThe Motorola Backflip doesn’t get a whole lot of press. And it’s easy to understand why; it’s not exactly svelte, its screen is a bit small, its running last year’s processor and OS version, and when you talk on it, you’ll be palming the QWERTY keyboard.

Maybe that’s why nobody’s really noticed that the Backflip includes one of the most unique navigation features to be made available on a smartphone. You’re looking at it to the left; it’s a trackpad on the back of the screen. What makes it unique? Well, for one, it’s the first 2-dimensional scrolling device that you use blind (not counting the scroll wheel on old Blackberry devices, that’s a one-dimensional scroll). Second of all, it’s a trackpad. Name another phone which has a touch screen and a completely separate touch-sensitive navigation device.

The only name that comes to mind is Apple’s future iPhone 4. It’s been strongly rumored that the back of the next iPhone will be a touch-sensitive input device.

It’s easy to dismiss the Backflip as a gimmick device. The idea of a trackpad on a touchscreen device seems superfluous at first blush. Continue Reading…

After reviewing what appears to be a internal flier sent from T-Mobile to retail partners, the previously rumored Motorola Zeppelin will be henceforth known as the CLIQ XT. The CLIQ XT will most likely be carrying Android 1.5 with MOTOBLUR upon it’s release March 10th, and has no keyboard unlike it’s namesake, the CLIQ. It will have eXtra Touch only. Sorry, I had to try and determine what XT could mean.  Continue Reading…

Reading through the specifications sheet of the Motorola DEVOUR reveals a number of unique features that bring a really complete package to the DEVOUR.  The Motorola DEVOUR was recently announced by Verizon Wireless and Motorola, and will be available in March on Verizon’s network.  The most obvious features of the DEVOUR are the physical QWERTY keyboard and Motorola’s MOTOBLUR UI running on top of Android 1.6.  Some of the less obvious, but a little more unique features include a wireless sync with other DLNA devices, such as your television or DVD player.  You can share your videos, photos and such via the connection with your home TV as well as listen to your MP3s on your DEVOUR with your home stereo, if it were also DLNA connected.  Continue Reading…

Motorola DevourVerizon Wireless and Motorola announced today that the Motorola Devour will be coming to Verizon Wireless in March.  This phone will be a first for Verizon carrying the MOTOBLUR interface on top of an Android 1.6 phone.  The phone features a full QWERTY keyboard much like the already available Motorola DROID.  This looks to be an even more social network centric phone, with the special features built into MOTOBLUR, and possibly focuses on a lower price point than the DROID.  For the full release and specs… Continue Reading…

Motorola BACKFLIP

Motorola Backflip

Motorola announced during CES a new type of Android phone with a “reverse flip” QWERTY keyboard.   The keyboard of the phone faces out when the hinged phone is closed, and behind the screen is a trackpad like feature they have dubbed backtrack.  It also features Android 1.5 with MOTOBLUR and will be upgraded to Android 2.1.
