Apple has filed a lawsuit against HTC for patent infringement on 20 different Apple patents related to the iPhone, including aspects of the user interface, hardware and some of the architecture.  HTC is currently the largest manufacturer of Android powered smart phones and there is a good chance one or more of these aspects are part of your favorite Android phone.  We’ll have to keep a close eye on the outcome of these events as they could seriously affect your next Droid.  It is interesting Apple is not going after Google, but HTC instead.  Since some of the items in the lawsuit are releated to user interface and “underlying architecture” they could be specific to the Sense UI or something completely unrelated to Android and Google. Nexus One versus HTC Desire

With the recent announcement from HTC at the 2010 WMC about their newest creation, the Desire, it has left many consumers wondering which phone would be better for them; the Nexus One or the Desire.  Both phones are built by HTC, a company poised to be a big name in Android headsets for a long time, and both phones have very similar hardware.  There are a few differences here that we’ll look into, both hardware and software, explain what those differences mean to you and hopefully provide a path forward for making sure you find the Droid that you’ve been looking for.  Continue Reading…

The HTC Supersonic, which had some secret spy shots recently, looks to be in testing with Sprint now.  Our source has stated that the OS is much less buggy than it was in January when first reported in the wild and it seems to be moving in the right direction.  It does indeed have Sense UI over Android 2.1, but right now it’s the same Sense UI is the same as that on the HTC Hero, nothing new yet.   However, expect the Supersonic to ship with the same Sense UI 2.1 that they have demoed on the Desire and Legend.  Also, the same source has stated that both the Supersonic and the Nexus One have showed up in Sprint’s system.  The specs are shaping up nicely as well. Would you like to have the recently demoed Sense UI with Android 2.1 on your Nexus One?  Soon you too can be running Sense and Flash on your Nexus one because some hard working devs over at MoDaCo have already got a port of the Desire’s ROM working on the Nexus One and with it the Sense UI and Flash 10.1 support as well.  It’s not a super simple operation yet, but come on, they just got it working.  Given a couple days, this should be a nice ROM to put up on your Nexus One if you are bored of the Android 2.1 base OS.  You’ll also have to wait for a watermark free release, but that should give the Devs some time to tweak the ROM as well. HTC has released a set of very nice promotional / preview videos of the Desire and Legend.  The Desire is HTC’s newest flagship phone which supports all the latest features of Android 2.1 and has a newer version of Sense UI built on top of it with some pinch-to-zoom features, a couple new widgets, and some enhancements to take full advantage of Android 2.1.  The Legend is a replacement for the very popular HTC Hero phone, featuring the same basic layout, with an updated processor, the same Android 2.1 and Sense UI as the Desire and now an AMOLED screen.  Both feature a new optical trackpad in place of the traditional trackballs that have been loaded onto Android phones.  UPDATE: Official HTC Sites are up with even more details. HTC has built a custom user interface (UI) to place on top of the stock Android OS that adds a number of additional features and experiences for the consumer.  The Sense UI isn’t unique to Android, they do the same thing with Windows mobile platforms.  Currently, the HTC Hero, both GSM and CDMA, as well as the Droid Eris have Sense UI running on top of Android 1.5, and HTC has given word that they are indeed working on updating those phones to Android 2.1 and they will still carry Sense UI.  It wasn’t known, until recently, what kind of changes to the Sense UI users could expect.  Well, there is a nice YouTube video showing some of the changes and it involves some multitouch and looks very promising.  Continue Reading…

HTC has had a bad case of leaked information as of lately.  Luck for us.  Here are some shots of the HTC Legend, a GSM Android with Sense UI and most likely Android 2.1 on board.  We first reported on the Legend a while back with leaked specs from an HTC conference presentation.  The Legend is said to have a Qualcomm 7227 CPU at 600Mhz, a 3.2″ 480×320 AMOLED screen, 512 MB ROM and 256MB RAM, a nice 5MP camera with LED flash, an optical mouse and an FM radio.  Continue Reading…

Here are some sneak preview shots of the upcoming Verizon HTC Incredible.  It’s got Android 2.1 on there, as well as Sense UI, a “fast, really fast” Snapdragon CPU, 256MB of RAM, and a large 3.7″ WVGA 800×480 screen that is very vibrant and most likely AMOLED.  The back has a nice dual LED flash to accompany the 5MP camera.  All this falls inline with the rumored specs we wrote about not too long ago.  Enjoy more photos from pocketnow.com. HTC Adds Sense to Some Magics

HTC has released the long awaited ROM update so that some HTC Magic users can now experience Sense UI on their Android phone.  It has been long rumored that the Magic would eventually see this addition.  The ROM upgrade brings it to ROM v. 3.05.401.3.  This doesn’t include an update to the Android OS build as it’s still with Android 1.5.  Notice, the word “some” in the title.  One of the first steps required is to insert your phone’s serial number before it will even let you upgrade.  While the T-Mobile myTouch 3G is a Magic at heart, myTouch users are not able to flash the new ROM at this time.  After reading some comments at other sites, those users who have Magics that are “with Google” seem to not be able to flash the new ROM either. HTC Supersonic Appears to be Real

The rumors of an HTC Supersonic roaming around the Sprint world sporting 4G connectivity may be real.  Over the night a number of images and and leaks appeared showing off the HTC Supersonic in some good and some bad photos.  As we reported earlier from some leaked information only, it appears to be very similar in design to the HD2, with a nice big 4.3″ display.  It should come with a 1Ghz Snapdragon on board, and I imagine plenty of ROM and RAM for everyone to be happy.  In our earlier report the informant stated it had a little kickstand and came in white, but the most interesting part is, this phone is setup to use the 4G network Sprint has.  Other specs include Android 2.1 and Sense UI along with an FM tuner.  This could be a very interesting phone indeed.  Let’s hope it comes out sooner than later.
