T-Mobile looks to be preparing for the release of the Cliq XT as it has appeared in the inventory system sporting a couple of price tags. One hundred and thirty dollars gets you the Cliq XT on a two year contract with T-Mobile’s Even More plan. want to pay less per month using their Even More Plus plan? That will cost you two hundred dollars more which isn’t bad at all considering over the life of a two-year term, you can save some major cash. Continue Reading…
There have been a number of reports, rumors, speculations and general talk of Android 2.1 and older generation Android smart phones. The question on everyone’s mind is, “Will my Android get version 2.1?” I have received more than one email about the recent news concerning Android 2.1 and older phones. I didn’t jump on the story, because there wasn’t a confirmation of the updates and I decided instead to give the readers a chance to see what is official and what is rumor/speculation. With the introduction of Android 2.0 and then 2.1 a number of features were introduced that helped push the limit of the smart phone’s power and capabilities. Some of those features, such as live wallpaper and the 3D gallery and app drawer/interface can be vary taxing on the phone’s processor and memory. Can the current gen smart phones keep up? For those who have not applied the Over the Air (OTA) updated from T-Mobile to the Motorola Cliq, you should probably wait and see what happens over the next few days as it seems the OTA update is causing some major problems with the Cliq. The reported problems stem from a resetting of the clock to 7PM Dec 31 1969, without the ability to set the time back to real time. This then causes all kinds of syncing issues, MSM issues and general login issues that are typically based on a time stamp. Continue Reading…

Motorola Preparing Phone for both T-Mobile and AT&T

After reviewing a couple of FCC Filings this morning, it looks like Motorola is preparing a smart phone, most likely with Android on board, for both AT&T and T-Mobile. The devices passed through the FCC about a week ago with the IDs IHDP56KZ1 and IHDP56KZ2. KZ1 comes with quad band GSM and 3G support for T-Mobile, while the KZ2 comes with quad band GSM and 3G support for AT&T. Both phones come with Wifi 802.11b/g and Bluetooth 2.1. Little else could be found from the filings, but considering Motorola stated they’d have something like 20 Android phones coming through the pipe this year, it’s a good bet these things will be fully Droid worthy. For reference, Motorola’s DROID has an FCC ID of IHDP56KC5 and the Cliq comes with ID IHDT56KV1. There is another Motorola with the “56″ ID and a code name of WX404 supporting CDMA EVDO and Bluetooth via IHDT56LC1.

This is Why You Want an Android with AT&T Service

PC World and Novarium have once again joined forces to provide an overview of the 3G capabilities in the US, with results using over 51,000 separate tests from 13 cities around the nation showing upload/download and reliability of the top four network providers; AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless. The results look good for AT&T and smart phone users, as speeds (both up and down) were top on AT&T in most cities. PC World has a very long article on the subject, they do go into details on how exactly they performed the tests, and they go on to show trends from the last test as well. Continue Reading…
Looks like T-Mobile Germany/UK will start selling the Pulse Mini starting April of 2010. The Pulse Mini will come with Android 2.1 running off a Qualcomm MSM7225 processor and displayed on a 2.8″ QVGA (320×240px) screen. It will support triaband GSM/GPRS/EDGE as well as singleband UMTS/HSDPA at 2100 MHz, so it will be a fairly limited phone, as far as networks it will work with. Also, it will have Bluetooth 2.0 and WiFi b/g for your other connectivity options. Around back you’ll find a 3.2MP autofocus camera with flash. There is also an included a 3.5mm headphone jack for you music lovers. The ROM size is said to be 300MB, which I’m not sure if that’s available memory or total. However, you can install your own microSD card for up to an addition 16GB. No word on if it comes with a compass or an accelerometer according to the::unwired. Not too shabby for a lower level Droid, especially with Android 2.1 on board. No word on price in Germany, but in the UK it’s looking to be £99 without contract on pay-as-you go.

Today marks the first day that T-Mobile has officially placed the rumored myTouch 3G updated phones online. The newer myTouch 3Gs come with a 3.5mm headphone jack just like the Fender Edition. They are listed as “Coming Soon” and come in black and white, but strangely no burgundy. “I’m Ron Burgundy?” Continue Reading…

Google Phone Support for Nexus One Orders Now Available

Google has started phone support for help with your existing order, such as the order’s status and shipping questions. This is one step forward towards better support of the Nexus One after your click the purchase button. However, you’re still stuck calling multiple numbers after you receive you phone, depending on if you can determine if your problem is hardware (Call HTC) or network (Call T-Mobile). I still feel there should be one phone number for all. Continue Reading…

Nexus One Early Termination Fee from Google now $150
0 Comments | Posted by Benjamin at 3:08 pm
Google has lowered it’s “equipment recovery fee” that it charges should you cancel your contract with T-Mobile prior to keeping the phone for 120 days without returning the phone. This brings the phones price inline with the cost for purchasing the phone contract free for $529; $179 purchase price (2 year contract) + $150 Google equipment recovery fee + $200 T-Mobile early termination fee = $529. This is a good step forward in helping reduce the cost of the Nexus One. But, it is still a fee that is unique to the Nexus One/T-Mobile setup. Of course, you can always wait that 120 days and end your T-Mobile contract for $200, making the total price of the phone, $179 + $200 = $379. That’s up to you. Was this due to the FCC involvement? Wall Street Journal kind of thinks it might be related.
After reviewing what appears to be a internal flier sent from T-Mobile to retail partners, the previously rumored Motorola Zeppelin will be henceforth known as the CLIQ XT. The CLIQ XT will most likely be carrying Android 1.5 with MOTOBLUR upon it’s release March 10th, and has no keyboard unlike it’s namesake, the CLIQ. It will have eXtra Touch only. Sorry, I had to try and determine what XT could mean. Continue Reading…
