Rumors: Sprint Android Updates Could be Late March

Sprint has actually been fairly good about posting updates as to when they think the Android 2.1 updates for the Hero and Moment would be available. First they stated it would be in the first half of 2010, which did leave them a fairly wide window, then they narrowed it down a bit to early second quarter. Now, there is a rumor from AndroidCentral that the dates we can expect are March 22nd for the Hero and March 24th for the Moment. Continue Reading…
Larva Labs has done a good job of keeping the Slidescreen application up to date with bug fixes, feature enhancements and performance improvements. Version 1.13 continues that tradition with a couple bug fixes and a major battery improvement. I have been using Slidescreen for some time, and I find it a very nice app for general information all in one place. It makes quick views of important data easy. Continue Reading…
For those who have not applied the Over the Air (OTA) updated from T-Mobile to the Motorola Cliq, you should probably wait and see what happens over the next few days as it seems the OTA update is causing some major problems with the Cliq. The reported problems stem from a resetting of the clock to 7PM Dec 31 1969, without the ability to set the time back to real time. This then causes all kinds of syncing issues, MSM issues and general login issues that are typically based on a time stamp. Continue Reading…
A supposed leaked ROM for the Nexus One has been found with a newer build number than the current OTA release. Inside this is a few updated files pertaining to the radio of the Nexus One, and is mostly geared towards trying to improve the 3G reception that has been affecting the Nexus One since it’s release in early January. It doesn’t appear to be much more than an interim build of the ROM as it contains some out of date items, such as Google Maps 3.4, but does include the different radio files. The devs at XDA have managed to tear it apart so that if you want, you can update your radio only, without having to flash the entire OS again. Be warned that there have been mixed reviews so far, with some saying they are getting better reception and at least one user stating that while the 3G signal looks better, they were unable to receive calls in areas of previously sketchy 3G coverage. But, if you aren’t the adventurous type, I guess the good news here is it appears HTC/Google are still working the issue and still perfecting the phone’s software.
The Android 2.1 testing that we first reported was in progress must have been much further along than previously thought. Motorola has stated that the Android 2.1 update will begin this week via it’s official Facebook page. This should include some multitouch Browser and Gallery apps for the DROID on top of the multitouch Maps app already updated. They are stating that they will have information on other device upgrades later, in other words, the CLIQ won’t get it yet, but hold tight.
Hi all– we know you are frustrated with the lack of details regarding Android software upgrades and we sincerely apologize for not being able to share info sooner. We’re happy to relay the 2.1 upgrade to DROID will start to roll out this week, and we will have more information to share on other device upgrades later …
This is excellent news. We’ll see how much of the Android 2.1 build gets into the DROID. Hopefully it will be more than previously reported was in test. But, this should mean that all your Droid users get some 2.1 fun for now. Now, for the rest of us…humph.

Motorola Droid with Android 2.1 Testing at Verizon

Looks like Motorola Droid owners can start salivating now. Apparently, Android 2.1 version 1 is making its way through the testing department at Verizon making sure that ever nook and cranny is checked for bugs before a public release. This version and Android 2.1 brings with it pinch-to-zoom Browsing, but no word on a multitouch Gallery as of yet. According to a trusted source over at Engadget, while this does report as Android 2.1, it’s lacking just a bit of the Nexus One features. Continue Reading…
This is a simple follow up poll to see how many people’s Nexus One 3G is fixed. So, once again, if you had 3G issues prior to the update, after receiving the update, did it fix the issues? Continue Reading…
Nexus One users who have been having 3G issues, wanting pinch-to-zoom functionality and an updated Google Maps are in luck. Starting today, all you lucky Nexus One owners will start seeing an OTA update that will introduce an updated Google Maps app with a couple added functions, Google Goggles built in app, pinch-to-zoom and “a general fix to help improve 3G connectivity on some Nexus One phones.” Continue Reading…
Looks like the Archos 5 Tablet is getting itself a spiffy new makeover courtesy of Android 1.6 Donut. Archos has optimized this Donut build for the high resolution screen on the Arhos 5 Tablet as well as a few other tweaks to the apps to make them play a little nicer. This comes after Archos released Android 1.6 only to pull it back, presumably to get the customizations in place. Continue Reading…
Today, Sprint has released a support article indicating they have a maintenance update for the Samsung Moment ready. Unfortunately, it does not include an update to the Android OS, but it does include a number of small improvements, including all the Sprint specific apps and some improvements to battery life. The bad news is you must go to a Sprint retail store with a repair center to have the update installed. But, the announcement does mention that in the future the updates will be available over the air, so this is excellent news for Android updates via the ether. Continue Reading…
